*[The list of ants of El Hierro, the smallest & youngest of the Canary Islands, is updated: 21 species are listed with distribution data, with 7 considered as exotics, 12 species & 6 genera are added to the myrmecofauna of El Hierro. Two endemic new species are described, Temnothorax bimbache sp.n., & Monomorium wilsoni sp.n., & Tetramorium depressum Forel is elevated to specific status, stat. nov. The provisionally-identified Plagiolepis maura population has the interesting characteristic of having apterous sexuals. The 7 ant species I consider as exotics on El Hierro are Cardiocondyla emeryi, Pheidole teneriffana, Tetramorium caldarium, Paratrechina longicornis, P. jaegerskioeldi, Tapinoma melanocephalum, & Linepithema humile.]
