Some terms associated with ant morphology (profile view).
Gradual downward slope of the mesosomal profile
![image/jpeg Image icon](/modules/file/icons/image-x-generic.png)
The profile of the mesosoma slopes gently and gradually down as it approaches the posterior margin. There is not a sudden and steep decline from the posterior of promesonotum to the anterior of the propodeum. Used in Antkey to separate Cardiocondyla, Crematogaster, Myrmica, Tetramorium, Vollenhovia and Wasmannia from Pheidole.

The gradual downward slope of the mesosomal profile is broken by a steep decline from the posterior of promesonotum to the anterior of the propodeum. Used in Antkey to separate Pheidole from Cardiocondyla, Crematogaster, Myrmica, Tetramorium, Vollenhovia and Wasmannia.
