Abstract:

The behavior, both in the field and in observation nests, of three species of Cardiocondyla are described: C. emeryana and C. nuda were studied in Texas and C. ectopia in California. Observations include data on length of immature stages, foraging habits, foods utilized, reactions with other ant species and mating behavior. The data are summarized and compared against observations made by E.O. Wilson on C. venustula and C. emeryi.
