worker caste
minor workers (Camponotus)
The smallest-sized workers of Camponotus. The genus is polymorphic, and there is a range of worker sizes. The minor caste (or more precisely, subcaste) varies in size and shape, but is distinct from the major subcaste identified by its oversized head.
worker caste bimorphic
Refers to a worker caste which shows a bimodal variation in size with a distinct small forms (minor workers) and large forms (major workers), but little to no variance in between. In general majors differ from minors in overall body length as well as in having relatively larger heads. The only bimorphic taxa in Antkey are Pheidole and some species of Cephalotes.
worker caste polymorphic
Refers to a worker caste which shows a large, continuous range in size from small to large workers. In general majors differ from minors in overall body length as well as in having relatively larger heads. Polymorphic taxa in Antkey include Anoplolepis custodiens, Acromyrmex, Atta, Camponotus, some Cephalotes species, Monomorium destructor, and all Solenopsis species except for Solenopsis papuana.
Worker caste monomorphic
Refers to a worker caste which shows a no appreciable variation in size. In general majors differ from minors in overall body length as well as in having relatively larger heads.
