Lepisiota sp.
Diagnosis of worker among Antkey species. Antenna 11-segmented. Antennal club indistinct. Antennal scape length less than 1.5x head length. Eyes medium to large (greater than 6 facets); break outline of head. Dorsum of mesosoma with metanotal impression, but lacking a deep and broad concavity. Propodeum and petiolar node both armed with a pair of short teeth. Metapleuron with a distinct gland orifice. Waist 1-segmented. Petiole upright and not appearing flattened. Gaster armed with acidopore. Distinct constriction not visible between abdominal segments 3+4. Hairs not long thick and produced in pairs.
Lepisiota sp. HI01 is immediately recognizable among all other formicines that are introduced or commonly intercepted in the United States by the pairs of short teeth that arm both the propodeum and petiolar node. These characters leave little ambiguity when combined with the 11-segmented antenna, which is shared only by Anoplolepis and Plagiolepis among introduced or commonly intercepted formicines of the USA.
