*[Brachymyrmex patagonicus Mayr is a recently introduced species that is well established in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. This species is abundant in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, & Louisiana, & has spread into other states. It has become a nuisance pest with occasional large infestations occurring in homes, hospitals, & other businesses. Brief descriptions & illustrations of all castes, biological importance, economic importance, & known distribution in the United States are given.]
