Paratrechina longicornis is often referred to as the Black Crazy Ant because of its frenetic and somewhat chaotic foraging behavior which makes them appear 'crazy'. The long legs and antennae are constantly moving in the field. The ants prefer sugar resources, but will readily scavenge as well. When they feed at sugar baits it is possible to see their gasters distend as they fill up with syrup.
